Texting while driving may not seem like a difficult task to some, especially to many young drivers who are accustom to texting and feel as if they will be fine to text while they drive because it is second nature to them. The reality is that in order to send a message you may not have to look at the keys on your phone because you know where all of the keys on the phone are but you will still have to look at your phone for other things such as incoming text messages and to make sure the message was sent or reads correctly. So even if you feel as if you are experienced at texting and an experienced driver it is still not a good idea to text and drive.
A study done by the
Nation Highway Traffic Safety Administration in 2008 showed that the
second leading cause of preventable automobile fatalities is due to texting while driving (first was drinking while driving). Texting while driving is now against the law in some states and many lawmakers are trying to push for the law to exist nationwide. New Jersey and New York are among many other states who have banned texting while driving and rightfully so because it will save lives. To help enforce this law anyone violating it will be fined but some police officers are reporting a difficulty catching people who are texting while driving.
