According to
recent reports released yesterday the Zadroga Bill may not cover those who believe they have cancer caused by the World Trade Center rescue, clean-up, or other means of exposure. This announcement came as a shock to most people following the Zadroga Bill considering many people who assisted in the World Trade Center rescue and cleanup were exposed to very dangerous and toxic materials such as asbestos and PCBs to mention just a few. This makes it highly likely that the exposure could very well lead to cancer and other health problems.
Those arguing against allowing the Zadroga Bill to cover cancer are saying that the high number of cancer in those present in the area of the World Trade Center and those who helped with rescue and clean-up are already a high risk for cancer just because they live in New York City because the second highest cause of death in New York City is cancer. They claim that there is no way to determine it the person would have had cancer if they had not participated in the rescue or clean-up and therefore it probably will not be covered.
It is important to understand that the provisions for the Zadroga Bill do still have time to be changed before they go into effect. So if you are suffering from cancer and assisted in the WTC rescue or clean-up check periodically to find out if the Zadroga Bill has been updated to include cancer.
