Bed Bugs Found in New York City Homes, Hotels and Stores

According to recent reports you may have heard there has been a recent outbreak of bed bugs in certain areas across the nation - New York City being one of the place with a heavy infestation of bed bugs. The thing you should know about bed bugs in New York City is that they are not just something that can be found in the bed (although they do show up there also) but they have been found at certain areas in New York City over the past few months in higher end co-ops, apartments, hotels, stores such as Victoria Secret, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Hollister in Manhattan, schools and hospitals.

Bed bugs normally live 10 to 20 feet of their host and generally try to avoid light. Common places that bed bugs live are under baseboards, behind headboards, behind pictures and behind other furniture that creates a dark environment.

Bed bugs normally leave large, itcy welts on their hosts similar to that of a flee or mosquito bite. Bed bug bites are normally not recognized as so until there is a bed bug infestation.

Although, according to research, bed bugs do not carry pathogens such as mosquitos or ticks some people may actually have a severe allergic reaction to bed bug bites. This can occur because the bed bugs inject an anti-blood clotting agent into the skin causing people allergic to it to go have a reaction that can range from severe itching to not being able to breath. It is important to visit a doctor or hospital if you notice a severe reaction occuring or if the bites areas seem infected.
