Alka-Seltzer Recalled for Potential Hazards due to Drowziness from Improper Labeling on Box

When you purchase an over the counter drug many times, if you are sick or have allergies, you may take additional drugs (whether they are prescription or over the counter).  It is recommended that if you are taking more than one medication that you check the ingredients to make sure you are not taking too much of the same drug and it is equally important that you do not take multiple drugs that cause drowsiness at the same time.  Certain drugs cause drowsiness and if so it is important that the consumer be aware of the fact that they may become drowsy especially if the person has to operate heavy machinary or needs to drive a vehicle and may end up injuring someone or themselves.

Recently a recall was issued for Alka-Seltzer Cold medicine which is manufactured by Bayer.  The recall was due to some boxes of 20 capsule Alka-Seltzer Plus Day & Night Formula Liquid Gels not having a warning that the over the counter medication may cause drowsiness.  Bayer estimates that only 4% of the pill boxes were printed without the label that explains that the medicine can cause drowsiness.  The lot number being recalled is 296936L.

A recall such as this one is very necessary because in the event that someone took the medication and operated heavy machinary or drove a car and was not aware that it caused drowsiness and they fell asleep while performing the task they were doing and caused injuries to themselves or other because of it company would be held liable for the injuries.

If you or someone you know was injured due to improper labeling on a drug or due to a drug recalled for any other reason contact a personal injury lawyer or a product liability lawyer.  If you live in the New York City area contact Staten Island injury attorney at 718.979.4300 to discuss your product liability case with Frank J. Dito Jr.
