Drunk driving or driving under the influence of illegal drugs or certain prescription drugs is prohibited by New York law. Regardless of New York driving laws many still choose to drive impaired risking everyone on the road including themselves. During the holidays the rate of drunk drivers tends to rise. A Staten Island family who lost their teen daughter a few years ago is hoping Staten Island drivers will stay sober this holiday season while on the roads. For more information about New York laws on driving while drunk or under the influence contact Staten Island injury lawyer Frank J. Dito Jr. at 718-979-4300.

A Reminder to Not Drink and Drive from a Staten Island Family This Holiday Season

Around this time of year, especially near New Years, there is usually a spike in the number of people who drink and drive or drive under the influence of drugs (even prescription drugs) which alters the mind's ability to correctly react in situations and causes judgment to be impaired.

The reality of what a person driving while under the influence of drugs or drinking can do comes all too real to some who have lost loved ones in a car accident or those who have a loved one or personally have a serious injury that will continue to last for years if not the rest of their life.

One Staten Island family is speaking up to remind the residents of Staten Island to drive sober not just this holiday season but to make it a life long habit to drive sober. As recently interviewed by the Staten Island Advance the Edkins family lost their daughter in a car accident almost four years ago due to a driver who had been drinking and taking Zanax. Their daughter who was killed in the car accident was only 18 years old when she passed away. Also in the car with her was another 18 year old woman who suffered head and back injuries in the car accident.

We hope that this call to drive sober will sound throughout Staten Island this holiday season.
