Dorel announced a recall of nearly 800,000 car seats that were sold under widely sold and popular brands such as Maxi-Cosi, Safety 1st, Cosco, and Eddie Bauer.
The car seats are being recalled because of a faulty release button which can loosen the harness. The loosening of the harness in and of itself is not dangerous BUT if a car accident takes place a faulty car seat with loosened harness straps would not be effective in keeping the child in the car seat safe. This could potential cause the child to be thrown around during an accident or even to be dislodged form the car seat.
Car seats affected by this recall are car seats sold under Maxi-Cosi, Safety 1st, Cosco, and Eddie Bauer between May 1, 2008 and April 30, 2009. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a repair kit will be made available by Dorel sometime in the near future which will help to fix the problem.
