If you have been injured or have an illness and are wondering if you are eligible for
Social Security Disability Benefits you may be wondering how to find out if you eligible to be approved by the Social Security Administration (SSA). There are quite a few things that the Social Security Administration uses to base whether or not someone is eligible for
Social Security disability insurance.
Here are 3 ways you can help determine if you may be eligible:
- Your medical records must indicate the presence of an impairment, or multiple impairments, that are either mental or physical in nature
- Your impairment must be severe enough that it prevents you from working because it is disabiling or your injuries cause you to be able to make less than $900.00 a month before taxes are taken out.
- The impairment must last more than 12 consecutive months or be projected to be impaired for longer than a period of 12 months.
Things to keep in mind when applying for Social Security disability benefits:
- Realize that your condition needs to not only be listed on in the list of qualifying disorders on the Social Security Administration website but also need to have lasted for at least 12 consecutive months so far or be projected to last longer than a 12 month period, remember that there is a seperate list of qualifying disorders for children under the age of 18.
- If you are currently able to work, even if you are limited to working less hours, but make more than $900.00 a month before taxes the Social Security Administration will deny your claim without even reviewing your medical records.
- The Social Security Administration ultimately bases their decision as to whether or not you are impaired enough to receive disability benefits by how long the impairement has lasted or is projected to last, that you are unable to perform work or unable perform work that will result in an income of less than $900.00 per month and whether or not you are able to perform any other type of work or not.
