A recent ruling by the U.S. District Court Jury resulted in a
woman being awarded $1.4 in workers' compensation benefits due to a work related illness.
Becky McClain reportedly got infected by a genetically altered virus produced in Gorton Lab in Pfizer which is where Becky was employed as a scientist at the time.
Mrs. McClain claims that the dangerous work related virus caused her to suffer from severe symptoms such as paralysis. The court did not award Mrs. McClain the sum of $1.4 million dollars based off of the fact that she was paralysed by a virus caused by unsafe work conditions alone but rather had to do a lot with the fact that she was fired from her job after she claims she tried to warn the company of the dangers of this virus but instead of being heard while voicing her the dangers of the working conditions she claims they fired her.
Pfitzer claims otherwise though saying that they fired her because of multiple absences from work and that it was only after she was fired for this instance that she voiced complaints of the unsafe work conditions.
